This series of 4 half-day workshops will focus on sugar lift, soap, and crayon ground etching on aluminium plates.

Join us for a 4 - week course where students will learn how to make and apply a sugar lift solution and soap grounds to create painterly and hand-drawn prints. The workshop will teach you everything about how to prepare your plates, make the lifts and grounds, as well as exploring a range of alternative marking-making and etching techniques to produce quality prints. Students who enrolled in the Beginners class will have an opportunity to extend their practice and understanding of printmaking. All supplies are provided for you to make a series of small prints. Previous experience in intaglio techniques is preferred. Experienced printmakers will benefit from this workshop.

What students need to bring: pre-developed ideas for your print (drawings, compositions, etc. – think like a painter!), enclosed shoes, apron, own drink, and lunch.

ABOUT THE TUTOR

Emma is a proud Hunter-Valley-based trans-woman, artist, and educator (pronouns she/her), whose creative practice is interdisciplinary in nature. She utilizes traditional and contemporary forms of printmaking, textiles, photo media, collage, and mixed-media techniques to critically explore human-environment relationships and the illusive ‘boundaries’ we like to create between ourselves, others, and our environment. She has completed Advanced Printmaking and Drawing course at Newcastle Art School as well as a Diploma in Visual Arts (Printmaking & Photography). She is currently balancing being a high-school teacher and university academic, retraining to be a School Psychologist, and being a stay-at-home mum and artist.

She has twice been a finalist in the Newcastle Emerging Artist Prize (2018 and 2019) and have exhibited in both solo and group shows at Timeless Textiles, Onwards Studio and Gallery, NERAM, Gallery 139, Newcastle Printmakers Workshop, Watt Space, and Hunter Wetlands.

She is currently based in Maitland and Wollongong
