Art gallery MAC yapang for the art prize competition, with call for entries to acquisitive with pool prize of $40,000

2025 marks the first year of the MAC yapang Art Prize!

This national art prize has a total prize pool of over $40,000.

It is open to artists from all disciplines across Australia, with artworks in any medium.

The winning artist of the acquisitive prize will be awarded $30,000, and their artwork will be acquired by the Museum of Art and Culture, yapang for the permanent collection.

All artworks must be for sale.

Finalists will be included in the MAC yapang Art Prize exhibition at the Museum of Art and Culture, yapang

The Art Prize is supported by Lake Macquarie City Council.

Prizes

$30,000 acquisitive prize
This prize will be awarded to the winning artist, whose artwork will be acquired by MAC yapang for our permanent collection, a growing collection of contemporary art stored onsite at MAC yapang and worth over $3 million.

$5,000 yapang award
This will be awarded to an Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander artist working in any medium

$5,000 Lake Art Award
This award is for residents of the Lake Macquarie Local Government Area

Entry

Entry is $30 per artwork, or $25 for Lake Mac Arts Members.

2 June 2025 - Entries open online 
30 July 2025 - Entries close at 3pm
18 August 2025 - Finalists announced 
11 October 2025 - Delivery of Finalist artwork to MAC yapang (2A First Street, Booragul, NSW) 
17 October 2025 - Exhibition opening and award announcement at Museum of Art and Culture, yapang from 6pm
18 October – 7 December 2025 - MAC yapang Art Prize exhibition on view

Which mediums are eligible to enter?

The MAC yapang Art Prize is open to all mediums.

Artwork can be of any medium within the size limit of 250 cm (h) x 250cm (w) x 250cm (d).
Including but not limited to, sculpture, painting, drawing, photomedia, installation, sound, fibre arts and a single piece or multi-piece artwork.

Are there size restrictions?

Yes, your work cannot exceed 250cm in any direction or exceed 25 kg in total weight.
