Due to major demolition works at Awaba House MAC yapang and Three Bears Cafe will be closed from 9 - 13 September, and 16 - 20 September. The art museum and cafe will operate as normal on weekends (9am - 3pm Saturday and Sunday) and weekend events will continue as planned.
In September 2023 Western Australian born, US based artist Ian Strange exhibited Suburban Interventions at MAC yapang. Ian strange has forged an international career through a series of site-specific interventions and community-based projects, focusing on the notion of “home”. Suburban Interventions documents Strange’s site-specific projects around the world that interrogate the idea of the home as a highly charged symbol, acting to “place the psychological interior of the home onto its exterior”.
As part of this exhibition the artist was commissioned to create a site-specific work of Awaba House, entitled Studies of Awaba House. Awaba House, which is situated in the grounds of Sculpture Park surrounding MAC yapang, was devastated by fire in 2019, and Studies of Awaba House documents and responds to the current state of the site in the form of a series of 3D printed sculptures.
