Get creative this school holidays in Lake Mac

A packed school holiday program now open for bookings in Lake Macquarie aims to keep kids of all ages entertained during the Easter break.
Lake Macquarie City Council Manager Arts, Culture and Tourism Jacqui Hemsley said the Lake Mac Autumn Holiday Program included a range of fun activities, from art to animal appreciation, and everything in between.
“There are 15 activities planned across the City, most of which are free or low-cost, with various sessions available for booking,” Ms Hemsley said.
“We’ve tried to mix up the activities, locations and scheduling to make it accessible for everyone. Lake Mac Swim Centres will be hosting a total of 37 learn-to-swim intensive classes across Charlestown and West Wallsend Swim Centres throughout the holiday period, teaching swimming techniques and the importance of pool safety.”
For animal lovers, SEEN@Swansea will host a Tuesday 13 April workshop all about snakes, with stories and craft to follow. Kids will be able to create their own craft snake to take home.
A Thursday 15 April ‘Paint Me a Story’ workshop at Belmont Library will feature Chinese brush-stroke artist Stephen Cassettari. As Cassettari paints different animals, children will enjoy a story with a difference.
Veteran local magician Joel Howlett will perform two all-ages magic shows at Rathmines Theatre on Saturday 10 April while the Museum of Art and Culture Lake Macquarie (MAC) will host a ceramic workshop where kids will enjoy a walk through the current First Class 2020 exhibition, followed by sculpture craft using a range of techniques with air-dry clay.
MAC will also run a hands-on tie dye workshop for teens where kids aged 12-16 will create their own tie-dyed t-shirts.
A Friday 9 April screening of hit children’s movie Paddington 2 at Rathmines Theatre is $8 a ticket or $25 for a family of up to five, with popcorn included.
“This is a great opportunity for kids to make new friends, have fun and enjoy their school holidays while gaining new skills and knowledge,” Ms Hemsley said.
The event program officially kicks off on Thursday 25 March with the Great Easter Egg Hunt at Swansea Swim Centre and runs until Sunday 18 April. Booking is essential for all activities.
