Australia has a rich heritage of media arts which is little known and rarely celebrated within the contemporary art arena. One of the primary issues facing screen and media arts key organisations and artists is not just how to preserve this heritage, but also how to document and inform new generations of digital artists and new audiences of the rich legacy and diversity of practice.
scanlines is a national touring exhibition of artwork by established Australian media artists selected from the dLux archive of 30 years of experimental film, video, net art, games and animation. The exhibition is supported by the Scanlines online archive as an accessible educational resource.
Using these key works as starting points, scanlines blends curatorial and educational content to a deliver an integrated workshop program which aims to up-skill and inform its participants about a rich variety of media making practices to provide them with the means to consider contemporary new media practice within its historical trajectory.
