Stitching Identities

SKATES Bricolage Mandala.jpg

Fibre artists Kathryn Grushka and niece Clare Skates explore their common and discrete matriarchal pasts and shared family history.

The artworks in Stitching Identities represent enfolded life experiences that Kathryn Grushka and Clare Skates unfold, stitch by stitch, through the medium of textiles and fibre. The exhibition links the artists’ histories and female experiences in ways that connect philosophical theory with artistic practice.
