Giles Alexander, Dianne Jones, Arlo Mountford, Rodney Pople, Leslie Rice, Bruce Rowland, Ricky Swallow and Anne Zahalka acknowledge the art of the past. In this collection of paintings, watercolour drawings, sculpture, photomedia, animation and tattoos, the art of the past becomes the foundation of the art of today.

In artworks of engaging wit, Giles Alexander, Dianne Jones, Arlo Mountford, Rodney Pople, Leslie Rice, Bruce Rowland, Ricky Swallow and Anne Zahalka address big and small questions about present-day social, political and human issues.

In so doing, these eight contemporary Australian artists borrow from a surprisingly long list of earlier masters, that includes, among others, Donatello, van Eyck, Botticelli, da Vinci, Titian, Holbein, Caravaggio, Rubens, Velázquez, Goya, Courbet and Picasso.
