Nicola Hensel: The Patient Labyrinth

Fig (ocean) crop.jpg

For this exhibition, Hensel has produced a collection of work steeped in references to local flora.

Of the three large pen and ink portraits of fig trees, two were executed over a chilly ten-day period in front of their giant Port Jackson subjects in the gallery grounds.

venerates endangered species native to our region in an installation of 90 inscribed carbon paper icons of the subtlest beauty. The remaining pieces in the exhibition – drawn directly on gallery surfaces and in the studio series of drawings, small paintings and collage – further serve to illustrate a view of nature that is both respectful and adventurous.
