MAC Society Second Saturdays
Combining Digital and Traditional Art
Join the MAC Society for an informal discussion with Dennis Blanch; printmaker, artist and photographer. Dennis will be joined by artist colleagues, combining digital and traditional art and archival printmaking.
About Dennis Blanch
Dennis is a local photographer, artist and printmaker, based in Rathmines. His online presence is at the Fine Art and Printing Gallery — fargallery. Dennis is a strong supporter of local art, and is working with a number of artists who choose to combine digital and traditional art, and archival quality printmaking. They recently exhibited a selection of their work at the Toronto Library.
Giclée Printing
These days artists can have museum quality prints of their original art works on archival paper, in open or limited edition, produced by the giclée ("zhee-klay" – sprayed) process. Dennis is an expert in use of the giclée process, so we can look forward to having him explain it to us.
Why printmaking?
Why might an artist choose to make prints of their original art works? What are the advantages and disadvantages of the giclée process? When did it start? Is it widely used in the art world? What alternatives exist? How expensive is it? Are there conservation issues? Dennis will be ready to chat about such questions, and more.
About this event
Combining Digital and Traditional Art is brought to you by the MAC Society, a public event in our Second Saturday program. As usual, the presentation at 10:00–11:00am will be a relaxed, meet-the-artist chat rather than a lecture, and will be followed by a social half hour until 11:30am, when attendees can have one-on-one time with Dennis, accompanying artists, and fellow attendees, over hot and cold beverages and biscuits.
MAC Society is a volunteer, not-for-profit association promoting art and culture in our community, and fundraising to support acquisition of artworks for MAC, yapang. We gratefully acknowledge that our presenters generously contribute their time to support our events. With Eventbrite, our modest ticket fees cover basic expenses for our Second Saturday events — any residual funds go to supporting acquisition of artworks for MAC yapang.
MAC Society members have free admission to our Second Saturday events, while admission for Lake Mac Arts members is $5.00 and general admission is $8.00. These ticket charges, through Eventbrite, cover basic expenses — any modest residual funds go to supporting acquisition of artworks for MAC yapang. Please remember that every attendee needs to register on Eventbrite, even those with free admission, so we have accurate advance information for seating, catering and other planning requirements. Thank you.
If you choose to have lunch after the meeting, at Three Bears Café, be sure to reserve a table well in advance (tel. 0447 332 148).
