Ian Strange - Suburban Interventions

Final Act_Number twelve 2013.jpg

Ian Strange is a Western Australian born, US based artist who has forged an international career through a series of site-specific interventions and community-based projects, focusing on the notion of “home”.

Suburban Interventions is a large-scale survey of the artist’s photo media and film work and is arranged sequentially in eight titled chapters – Suburban, Final Act, Island, Target, Zloty, Shadow, Dalison, and Penumbra – each containing a distinctive body of work responding to a specific site, place, community, and time.

Suburban Interventions documents Strange’s site-specific projects around the world that interrogate the idea of the home as a highly charged symbol, acting to “place the psychological interior of the home onto its exterior”.

This exhibition will be on view at the Museum of Art and Culture, yapang (MAC yapang), and Multi-Arts Pavlion, mima (MAP mima) located in Speers Point Park.

MAP mima will be showing a selection of video works from the exhibition, including Strange's 62 minute performative work Traces (2020) that will play in full at 1pm Friday - Sunday.
