The exhibition Found Out broadly surveys works by a diverse range of contemporary established and emerging Australian artists, from the Hunter region and elsewhere, who use the found object as an integral aspect of their artmaking practice. The exhibition concept was conceived by emerging curators, Jacqueline Anderson and Crystal Davis, and developed by Lake Macquarie City Art Gallery to explore the various ways in which that the ‘found object’ has been utilized within the contemporary Australian art scene.
The practice of recycling objects as art media is not new. Since the pioneering work of Marcel Duchamp in the early 20th century, everyday objects have been manipulated, transformed, used and abused by artists to construct works of art.
