First Class 13
Now in its sixth year, First Class is an established annual exhibition celebrating the high calibre of work produced by students from the Hunter and Central Coast regions.
The exhibition is selected from nominated Higher School Certificate submissions produced in the previous year. Despite the works being drawn together from a number of schools across the region, each year a broad theme organically emerges. In First Class 13 the investigations and explorations into power and powerlessness are visible across the exhibition.
The works encompass a variety of viewpoints, from the personal to the global, and the historical to the cultural. The exhibition comprises a wide variety of media and techniques with noticeable references to the language of contemporary culture. The artists make use of accessible technology and draw upon aesthetics connected to gaming, tattooing, street art, design, mass media and the zine world.
