Lake Macquarie City Art Gallery’s support of contemporary art projects is aimed at engaging people to communicate about art, life and the world in general. Book Club is a perfect vehicle for this.
The exhibition reflects curator Meryl Ryan’s passionate and professional commitment to exploring the possibilities of contemporary arts practice and the place of artists as chroniclers of contemporary life and issues.
To achieve this, she has drawn together works by a group of accomplished international and Australian contemporary artists, who reconstruct the fabric, or reimagine the potential of the ‘book’ to create new meanings, ideas or experiences.
Artists, their work and ideas, are paramount to what we do as a gallery and the artists in Book Club have all contributed poignant, challenging and inspiring elements to the exhibition’s conversation.
