Open Studios ready to provide a glimpse into the art world

Lake Macquarie artists will open their studio doors this weekend to showcase life behind the art as part of Lake Mac Open Studios.

Across 20 locations in Lake Macquarie, 40 artists and makers will offer a glimpse into their passion and what inspires them to be creative.

Manager Arts, Culture and Tourism Jacqui Hemsley said Open Studios gave art lovers the chance to meet artists, immerse in the creative practice and get their hands on some local artwork.

“Lake Macquarie has a proud artist culture – it’s part of our identity and we’re excited to bring this to the community,” Ms Hemsley said.

“It’s a great opportunity to see artists working with a variety of media, including textile, oil, acrylic and sculpture.”

Lake Macquarie watercolour artist Jenny Elks said the Open Studios weekend was a fantastic way for the community to engage with the arts and meet local artists.

“I love to hear when people come along to Open Studios and say they’ve always wanted to try art but they’ve never had the chance,” Ms Elks said.

“The creativity in Lake Macquarie is truly remarkable and this weekend we get to celebrate and share this passion with others.”

Last year, Open Studios welcomed 3000 art enthusiasts and the local creative industry generated $26,000 from artwork sales.

Studios will be open throughout the weekend, with visitors free to drop in anytime from 10am-4pm and in any order.

Brochures with maps are also available at Lake Mac Libraries. COVID-safe measures will be in place at each studio involved in the Open Studios weekend.
