Lake Art Prize 2020 - and the finalists are...
The Museum of Art and Culture, Lake Macquarie is pleased to announce the finalists for the inaugural Lake Art Prize.
More than 600 submissions were received for the prize, with judges Cara Pinchbeck and Elizabeth Ann Macgregor OBE set the difficult task of selecting the finalists.
For Elizabeth Ann Macgregor OBE, judging the artworks from imagery was an exciting but difficult challenge.
“There were many works that I would love to see but we had to be realistic about how many could be accommodated in the gallery,” Ms Macgregor said.
“I have no doubt that choosing the winners will not be easy.”
Council’s Manager Arts Culture and Tourism Jacqui Hemsley said the number of submissions reflected the outstanding level of talent and creativity in the Lake Mac community and across the nation.
“I would like to congratulate all of the artists who submitted work and encourage everyone in the community to visit the Finalist Exhibition when it opens at MAC.”
The 2020 Lake Art Prize Finalist’s Exhibition will take place between 12 December 2020 – 7 February 2021.
With a total acquisitive prize pool of $25,000, the winning artwork will be announced on Friday 11 December. Other artworks to be acquired from the Finalist Exhibition will be announced during December.
The Lake Art Prize was open to Australian artists age 18 and over. Artworks submitted reflected on the theme “'Where there is Water'.
